"Do books still matter? You bet they do. When it is the
first book a child gets to hold and read, when it is an
adult's first opportunity to learn to read and write, when
a resource-starved community comes together to build
and stock the shelves of its first library, or when the
book goes to a region without electricity or computers ...
these donated books matter a great deal. The Inter-
national Book Bank works with non-profit organizations
in developing countries to distribute high-quality books
to those in need of them. Books not only still matter,
having books makes a huge impact on the life outcomes
of those who receive them."

 - Valerie Staats, Executive Director 2007-2010

Do you work with a literacy program, library, or
community reading room in a developing country
outside the U.S.? Would high-quality new books
benefit your literacy or education program?

The International Book Bank works with not-for-profit
educational organizations and charities in countries
with critical needs outside the U.S. to meet their
needs for books and other educational materials.

All the books, donated by North American publishers,
are new and published in recent years. We screen
them for their physical condition, suitability, and
educational value.

Interested parties should contact the International Book
Bank at
info (at) internationalbookbank (dot) org or
410.362.0334 to request our information packet, with
details about your and our obligations, and applicable
shipping and handling costs. Book recipients, often with
a third-party sponsor, underwrite the actual shipping
and warehouse handling costs.

If your organization qualifies and is approved to receive
donated books, the IBB will work closely with you to help
you select the books from our list of currently available
titles. We carefully attend to age/level, content, and
cultural appropriateness of the books. We will then pack
and ship by sea container directly from our warehouse
and monitor the shipment to arrival at its destination.

Please click here to obtain our
current shipment rates.
We also have a discounted shipment offer for those who
can use 40-foot containers of upper-level English books
.

From our place to yours: Depending on the destination,
and whether it is near a port or overland transportation
is required, the shipping time averages from 4-6 weeks
once the container has left the Port of Baltimore. We do
require that book recipients provide us with digital
images and documentation of the distribution process
and the books' end-users.
