to lead; if we can read, we can live as
many more lives and as many kinds of
lives as we wish." - S. I. Hayakawa

 | | A very brief history: The International Book Bank (IBB) was |
| | founded as an all-volunteer organization in Chicago, Illinois in 1987, and the first shipment of donated books went to Jamaica. In 1989, the IBB formalized a partnership with the Canadian literacy organization, CODE, resulting in the shift to a professionally staffed organization. In 1990, the IBB moved its operations from Chicago to Baltimore to be at an international port. In 2008, the IBB celebrated its 20th anniversary with a gala at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in downtown Baltimore.
