"It is not true that we have only one life
to lead; if we can read, we can live as
many more lives and as many kinds of
lives as we wish." - S. I. Hayakawa

 | | A very brief history: The International Book Bank (IBB) was |
| | founded as an all-volunteer organization in Chicago, Illinois in 1987, and the first shipment of donated books went to Jamaica. In 1989, the IBB formalized a partnership with the Canadian literacy organization, CODE, resulting in the shift to a professionally staffed organization. In 1990, the IBB moved its operations from Chicago to Baltimore to be at an international port. Recently, the IBB proudly celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in downtown Baltimore.
